ABOUT US
Who we are and how we started
Camp Ala is focused on filling your kids' summer with laughter, fun, and friends.

My name is Alexandra Wowk, although most of the kids call me Alex or Ala. I am 24 years old and this is the 5th year I am running Camp Ala. I have taken university courses on child development in psychology, as well as Health focused classes. Health and safety is one of my main priorities during Camp Ala, I am first aid and CPR certified and use my knowledge of child development to develop crafts and activities that are age appropriate as well as engaging for all the kids who attend Camp Ala.
The name Camp Ala stemmed from my very first camper, my little sister Kylie (she’s 7 now). Kylie used to call me Ala as she could not pronounce Alex as a baby, as camp started when she was 4, her friends caught on and the name stuck. Camp first started as babysitting a group of kids that were all in the same social bubble during the Summer of 2020, while day camps were shut down due to the pandemic, it soon grew to include more kids, more structured activities, and more fun.
Camp Ala is my pride and joy as I strive to give your kids a summer they will never forget filled with laughter, games, and fun. I have always loved working with kids, I taught gymnastics to children, from 2015 - 2020, before my place of work shut down during quarantine. I worked with up to 10 children at a time between the ages of 9 months – 13 years. I have also been babysitting for family and friends since 2011, after completing the Red Cross babysitting course.
I am always learning more as I work with different kids, they teach me so much about compassion, sharing, and empathy, as well as the most popular playground games. Camp Ala is a place for kids to make new friends and grow into the best person they can be.

Camp Ala ROCKS!

This will be the 4th summer that my daughter has attended Camp Ala, she loves it! We were very fortunate to find Alex during the pandemic when she first started Camp Ala. Alex has dedicated so much to this camp the last few years and provides a variety of educational games, themes, crafts, and activities that the children gravitate towards. The camp also provides lots of outdoor time which was very important to us. The camp has large, kid friendly spaces, with the added bonus of a pool this year! Highly recommend!

Both of my children have been going to Camp Ala for the past four years. It is a safe and fun environment, and Ala ensures that every child is included and engaged with something that interests them. It has become like a second home to my children and they absolutely love it.
